G22 Clutch Pre Load
How much pre-load for a G22 driven clutch? I replaced stock spring with a Umax and just using cart as a daily driver. We do have pretty good hills we ride daily. No lift. Has backseat. Stock engine.

Re: G22 Clutch Pre Load
Don't know if this will help or not. Does the engine rpm up fast and the primary clutch start to close quickly ?

The RPM’s don’t rev up quick. They come up more gradual, on all settings that I have tried. Thinking maybe primary clutch is bad? Not real sure. Could also be that maybe I need more preload. |

Re: G22 Clutch Pre Load
Think of it this way, the primary is set to shift at max rpm which on a cart is around 3600rpm. The secondary clutch is torque sensing and set to shift much sooner, unless it senses torque (more throttle) from engine then it does not. So you get low rpm with low throttle it shifts faster, when you step on it hard it shifts as the primary wants and you get max rpm it revs higher before it shifts. So when you preload the secondary spring harder you are telling it you don't want it to shift sooner. This makes it shift at higher rpm no matter what the throttle is. It will still shift at max rpm full throttle but more preload makes it have more rpm at low throttle. Less preload it will shift at low rpm with low throttle, more pre load keeps it in 'low gear' more at part throttle. The preload affects the WOT shift rpm very little. More preload will make it backshift or downshift faster because it is already closer to high rpm shift it does not have to go as far.
If you put a umax spring in it already has more static pressure, I didn't need anymore preload with it when I ran it and it upped rpm on its own. And I was running 22 tires offroad. You could have a problem with the primary not working right, you could have a problem with the engine not making power as both will cause it to not shift properly. A worn belt also hurts performance. |
