Default 1988 Marathon GX444 Carburetor

Hello, I am new to the forum and new to these engines, have some background on carb re-building. I am having trouble finding parts to re-build the carb on it. Its has been off the cart for a while and is pretty dirty, gonna dip it and clean it out, just need new seals, jet and float. It is a Mikuni, and that is all I know about the carb, the cart is a 1988 Marathon GX444, Serial # 488572. I'd rather not buy a new/refurbished one. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be much obliged. Thanks!

P.S. I have learned more about these things in 10 minutes reading posts than I have with anything, sweet forum!

Mikuni BV24, if the cart is an 88. 88 was the only year to use the 24mm Mikuni, the others used the BV18. Probably won't have much luck finding that kit, and if you do the cost will be close to that of a new one. They were around $100, some a little less, last I checked on them.

Welcome to BGW!!!

That is what i am finding out here, I have read the post of the" early 80 to early 90's gx444 2 stroke explained" and 88 was the ******* child of the GX444. I appreciate the help, maybe ill be able to salvage what I have.

Thanks for the welcome too!

This is my Aunt's golf cart that has been sitting for a while not running, probly 3-4 years. She now wants to get it going, everything is dirty, dusty, no battery, the works..

Actually 83 was the evil year that is scorned.

88 is the best year 2pg to have! They made 2 more HP just from the carb and hipo exhaust, they're really a good cart IMO. I have a mixed year GX440 (3 wheel model, they were both called Marathons though) that is an 82 with a ??? engine and I'm putting 88 performance stuff on it. Should be a good runner when I'm done, nothing crazy but able to smoke any stock cart out there.

Anyhow, a good cleaning should help your carb, I would see if it can be salvaged before spending the cash on a new one. Rebuild kits for these seem non-existent for some unknown reason.

Cool, yeah, i read about that 83 too, haha! Glad it isn't that one. I just found a post about someone in the same jam as I, at least back in 2010. Someone posted to google Kawasaki Mule 550 Mikuni carbs, all im finding are 34/38 and 44's. Im assuming mine is a "24".

Wow! Nice find, and your right, I can save time and hassle. However, its from California, is it jammed with emission California compliant crap? Haha

Nah, it's from China, dealer in CA. lol
All of them could use a size or two bigger main jet for the oxygenated/alcohol modern pump swill.

Me too! Market saturation, it seems, as there are a lot of sellers under $45 or so.
