1990 Marathon goes like mad and dies

1990 marathon - new batteries - when accelerator pressed it is full throttle, cart goes a little ways and quits. It acts like the pot is bad and the solid state controller goes into save mode and shuts it down. resets itself and the repeats. is this the potentiameter gone bad or is there something else i need to look at to control the full throttle effect first

Disconnect the black and white wire from the top of the controller.
Measure between the two wires with an Ohmmeter.

You should read about 0Ω with the pedal up and about 5,000Ω with pedal on floor.

The Ohmic reading should increase smoothly as pedal is pushed slowly to floor.
