Battery break-in
Question on new batteries. I've had my crown cr190's in my cart for about 2 weeks and have yet to run them down past 90% soc. Am I doing my batteries harm by not draining them a little deeper? It stays plugged in to a dpi charger at all times when not in use.

Re: Battery break-in
There is a misunderstanding about discharging to 75% SoC as mentioned in Scotty's Battery Break-in Procedure.
It is a limit rather than a goal. In other words, you shouldn't discharge the batteries more than down to 75% SoC during the first couple dozen charge cycles, but you don't have to discharge them down to 75% SoC before recharging. Carts have different motors and controllers and tires sizes and haul different amounts of weight, so some carts use more AH per mile than other carts. Plus some carts are routinely driven further than others and in addition, some the battery packs in some carts have a higher AH capacity the others. Therefore, everybody's situation is more or less unique and the guidelines for breaking in batteries have to be general in nature rather than specific. In general terms: 1. Fully charge batteries prior to first use. a. Even if the vendor claims the batteries are fully charged when you receive them, do it again. b. It is okay to drive the cart a few dozen yards to make sure it works after new batteries are installed, but no jackrabbit starts, speed runs or hill climbs before you have fully charged the batteries first time. 2. After you have fully charged the batteries and after you have satisfied your curiosity about how fast it will accelerate, what the top speed is, how steep of hills it will climb and how far it will go without discharging below 75% Soc, drive the cart as you normally do for the distances you normally drive, unless doing so takes it below 75% Soc. (Less is okay) 3. After a couple dozen charge cycles, you can then drive the cart further, but never discharge the batteries below 50% SoC. 4. Do not let the batteries sit for long periods of time in a partially discharged state. Either put on charge after each long trip, or put on charge every night after several short trips. 5. If your routine trips don't take the battery pack down very far, it is probably a good idea to intentionally make a couple longer trips during the first two dozen or so charge cycles. |

Re: Battery break-in
Most of these are lead/acid batteries which are not REALLY a rechargable battery if that make sense but more of a maintainable batt. The lower the charge rate is the more it neg affects the batts. They should always be kept on a charger and water level maintained as specified.
