You know...I think I will check the length of the contacts and see if one is off by just a little bit. A small gap in the contact surface would do it...

After removing the FNR, you may have an alignment issue. I always set my FNR to exactly N (neutral), then move the bracket left and right, until the handle is exactly up, before tightening the bolts. The holes are slotted for this.
