EZGO Wide Open
I have a 1991 EZGO Marathon 36 volt. Smelled hot wires. Stopped to talk and then the cart took off wide open (foot not on the pedal). Any ideas what the problem could be. Works fine now that it cooled off. Afraid to drive without knowing the problem.

Unhook the batteries and tell us more about the cart.

Re: EZGO Wide Open
Never had a problem previously with it. After it took off and crashed. We got off it to look at it and was tapping on battery and key switch and it took off a second time. Put it on jack stands and now it is fine. It has a Curtis 1204-009 controller. I'm afraid it will take off again without knowing what might have caused it. Stock golf cart.

Re: EZGO Wide Open
Disconnect the 2 small wires on the controller pins 2&3. This will disable the cart. These should be easily traced back to the Potentiometer ( end of the gas pedal linkage) if you plug a meter into these 2 leads (set to Ω) you should get a reading of 0-5000 in forward and 0-2500 in reverse.
P.S. Keep one rear wheel up off the deck to disable movement until you correct the problem. |

Re: EZGO Wide Open
6.53 is 6530, so that's a little higher than ideal but throttle signal is not the problem IF you send the pedal down 15 - 20 times and get the same reading or close to the same reading each time. If yes then throttle signal is not the problem.
There is a sequence of switch events that have to be completed before the cart will go. 1.Key switch on 2. F&R in gear 3. Potentiometer switch closed and throttle signal 100% (pedal down) I'm not sure how you can have all of these things happen unless the pedal stayed down or fell down when you stopped? With the cart disabled. Safety first or you will get run over by the cart. Check to see if the go pedal return spring has broken. |

Re: EZGO Wide Open
Scotty is the expert on these, but I'm curious about something. When you press the go pedal does it click then take off or just take off? Solenoid clicking?
