Then as the week went on and with correct charging (to full after each use) but not constant charging, the reverse does not work again. I'm guessing constant charging is the only correct way to charge? The other night I charged it to full (solid constant green on the charger) in hopes of the issue resolve; no dice. I will try the toggle of the tow switch you suggest and report back with results.
By "in use" I mean away from its overnight parking spot where the charger is.
In other words, if the cart is driven that day, its batteries ought to get charged that night.

When you disconnected the batteries, you reset the computer (AKA controller). Putting into Tow mode disconnects the battery from the controller and resets It.

The electrical difference between Forward and Reverse is the direction the amps flow through the motor's field windings and the direction of amp flow is controlled by the controller. The controller defaults to Forward and has to be told to do Reverse by placing a voltage on J1 Pin-2.

If resetting the controller makes Reverse work and then it fails again, chances are the controller is bad.

This can be verified by checking for battery pack voltage on J1 Pin-2 when F/R switch is is R and cart isn't running.

If the controller is bad, replace it with an Alltrax XCT48400-PDS and you can program it to drive the way you want it to drive.
