Like Sergio said it's possible your diode was reversed to begin with and that will instantly burn switches and blow the fuse if the polarity is reversed. You should test the diode for continuity because sometimes having it reversed will cook it and it will not function properly afterwards. Use a diode check function of a multimeter, or check it for continuity. It should only show continuity one direction. The striped side of your diode (red wire side) has to be on the same terminal as the power side of the solenoid. Which would be your Black wire with the Red wire spliced to it. No reason to replace the fuse holder, but you will need a new fuse, and will need to replace any switches that do not have continuity when closed. |

Definitely test that diode with the diode setting if possible, You should get 0v one way and around 0.5v-0.7v the other way.
You should not use more than a 10 amp fuse. |
