Default Questions About the Freedom Chip

I have been doing a bit of looking around regarding the "Freedom Chip"
and I have some questions/observations.

I have seen pictures of three different "CHIPS"
RED
YELLOW
BLACK

I assume these relate to different settings but I have not been able to see which is which.

Does any one know what color does what?

Also from all the pictures I have seen of this "CHIP" they show only a 5 pin molex connector.

Is this all it is?

A jumper?

Is there a reason that I should not just wire one from my scrap box myself rather than spend 20+ to order one?

This is a Freedom Chip:

It is avaialable for $5 on ebay. Yes, it is simply a molex connector with jumper wires. They only apply to EZ-Go PDS carts, and basicly regulate the amount of regen braking the motor supplies. The Freedom removes virtually all the regen and allows a top speed of 18mph but some torque loss will occur.

Yep, that's all it is, but some have paid $40.00+ for those little "jumpers". You can find them all over the place at rediculous prices.

or you can do what I did and make your own. Ours had a "blank" in the slot for the chip, I took it out, and made jumpers to go into the blank. plugged it in and off I went. Just make sure you know where they jumpers go!
