1989 ezgo electric speed ?
I have recently got my first cart. a 1989 36 volt ezgo. Can anyone tell me how fast this cart should go. I recently boought 2 new batterys for it and replaced all the battery cables. But compared to the newer 36 volt carts on the course it seems slow and really slow up hills. should I expect more from this cart or is it just the age? Any help would be great. THANKS

Re: 1989 ezgo electric speed ?
Several factors play into the performance equation.... Like;
battery age & Condition Cable size & Condiiton Motor condition Drive system type & condition Cart age and weight I could go on... but I don't type that good Is your a metal Marathon cart with resistor coil speed control? They are just typically heavy and slow. You can make sure the cart works as good as it can with some maintenance and cable refreshing ...... But don't expect miracles unless something is wrong now.... like maybe the other 4 batteries are not as good as the 2 newer ones? |

Re: 1989 ezgo electric speed ?
I have replace all the battery cables I have installed a battery gauge and it reads over full charge after charging. I would guess the cart to run about 8to10 miles per hour. give or take is this normal?
Something else I seen last night was a light or spark coming from under the F/R switch when the foot pedal is pushed. Is this normal? or could this be a short? also with the 4 other batterys being older but seem to charge good. could they still be weak and slowing me down? Thanks for your help! |

Re: 1989 ezgo electric speed ?
Mix of old and new batteries could be a contributor. You should always replace all six at the same time despite the monetary hit. Also, have you greased the bearings since you bought it? Mine were pretty dried out when I bought mine used and it rolled much easier (making it faster) once I did that. They are pretty heavy with the metal body so you might just be getting everything you can out of it now. Bigger cables than stock will help deliver more power to the motor.
