Re: Steps to slowly convert to 48V
Most F&R (Forward & Reverse switch) can be upgraded with the beefed up switch cam. Some F&Rs already have suffered heat damage and should be replaced with a new switch and the HD switch cam installed. IF the switch lugs show any color change, these are signs of heat damage and the switch should be swapped out. The plastic housing is usually compromised and the effected lug has sunk or shifted from it's original position compromising the contact.

Re: Steps to slowly convert to 48V
So the best advice is to replace the F&R switch first, then replace the others. But buying a upgrade package would be cheaper in the long run.

Re: Steps to slowly convert to 48V
YEah, that's it. You get the system ready to handle the increased voltage & amperage and THEN you increase the voltage and amperage. It sounds simple but I have seen people get the controller first and wind up burning up a F&R switch and wind up wasting money trying to save it.

Re: Steps to slowly convert to 48V
My local shop recomended that I just upgrade the controller to an Alltrax 400amp. Said he has one in the shop. everything is stock, except he just put the 400amp controller. increase speed 2-3 mph and can smoke the tires with the increase in tourgue.
This is why I am on here asking questions. |

Re: Steps to slowly convert to 48V
A higher amp controller WILL NOT increase speed on a series cart, only increase the torque. Speed on a series cart is determined by voltage (assuming all other parts of the equation are nominal).

Re: Steps to slowly convert to 48V
Thanks Gornoman.
That is what I thought. So will a 400amp controller be enough, or should I stick with the 500amp in my quest for 48volts |
