Tierod end removal help!!!
Hey guys, aquired another golf cart. Its a 99 club car DS. I inspected the front steering and noticed the drives side tie rod end was loose. tired to tighten but all the threads on the end were bent. Ordered a new tierod but I cant remove the old end from the shaft( if thats what its called?) that has another tie rod end on it for the passanger side. I already have a new end to replace it with. Is there a trick to removing the end from that shaft? Thanks

Use a pickle fork or a tie rod remover press thingy

Re: Tierod end removal help!!!
thanks very much for the fast replies. Im trying to replace the drives side tie rod end, so I'm trying to remove it from the shaft. I'm guessing its just very hard to do because its an old cart and its just stuck or is there a trick to getting it unscrewed from the shaft? The replacement I have just looks like it screws right into the shaft one I remove the old end

If memory serves me correctly, one end of the tie rod is reverse threaded. Any chance you are just turning it the wrong direction?

Re: Tierod end removal help!!!
you have to loosen the nut, and then unscrew the tie rod end off the tie rod, and yes one is left hand threads, and the other is right hand threads

Re: Tierod end removal help!!!
ok, i thought the end just screwed into the tie rod. but my nut was not loosening either. Im going to try again tomorrow now that I know what is should do. the worst-case scenario i will just buy all new i guess. Thank you all again for the fast replies. Much appreciated!

Re: Tierod end removal help!!!
I'm having the same problem trying to adjust my toe-in. The tie rod end (ball joint) is stuck on the aluminum shaft and won't unscrew past a certain point. How did you finally get this off? I may take the steering assembly off today and soak it with some PB parts blaster. If that doesn't work I'll try some heat or as a last resort a pipe wrench.

Re: Tierod end removal help!!!
The two tie rods are linked together you may want to try and pop the other end off the see if that gives you a little more freedom to fight the PITA one. If you pop them both off it would be easy to take to bench and fight with it off the cart and probably easier than dropping everything.
EDIT: By pop them off I mean from the spindles then take it to a bench. |
