Re: Skizix's EZ-GO Workhorse build
Well the build is coming along slowly but surely but I'm running into mechanical issues now. Engine starter backfiring when i let of the throttle and very difficult to get going. Have to play with the choke and feather the gas to find a sweetspot in order to get it to take off. I did a valve adjustment and still no good. Ive read that it may be a throttle cable adjustment or possibly microswitch. Any ideas before I break down and bring it to a professional?

Re: Skizix's EZ-GO Workhorse build
Anyone know if new gears will come with instructions? I think it's time to speed things up. 21 mph just not cutting it.

Re: Skizix's EZ-GO Workhorse build
The backfiring is most likely due to the carb butterfly not closing just prior to the micro cutting off. Double check that and if you haven't already, throughly clean your carb. Also, how's the compression?

Re: Skizix's EZ-GO Workhorse build
Haven't checked compression but I did clean the carb a while back and it worked fine for a while. Maybe gunked up again. I'll give it a shot. Thanks for your help.

Re: Skizix's EZ-GO Workhorse build
I just received a set of 6:1 gears and it appears that there is no instructions enclosed. I spoke to a local mechanic and he said if you follow the service manual, swapping the gears is straight forward. Hope this helps.

Re: Skizix's EZ-GO Workhorse build
Good job on the work horse. I'm also building one. Big block honda and tons of work on mods to make it suitable for mountain work up here in Colorado.
Keep up the good work!!! |

Re: Skizix's EZ-GO Workhorse build
I just put 8 to 1 gear set in my me29 rear end. The ground speed governor can be removed and the right oil is essential in my opinion. My cart is topping out at 42 mph with a gx620 vtwin honda governed at 4200 rpm. Super FAST but still has plenty of torque for climbing hills. I was shocked the difference the gears made. I can walk you through the process if you want to take out the governor and little tricks I learned. LMK

Re: Skizix's EZ-GO Workhorse build
Can I ask which lift kit you went with mate? Just starting my workhorse build over here in Australia but struggling to make part numbers match with American models... Only difference is mine is electric but I don't think that changes the suspension set-up?
