2000 EZGO: Slow Acceleration?
I have a 2000 EZGO TXT that I am having issues with slow acceleration. When the cart is at a dead stop it takes off really slow and takes awhile to get up to speed. Once up to speed it seems to do just fine. Also, if I am at a stop at the bottom of a hill it really struggles to get up the hill. I have recently installed the following items on the cart that I think could affect this:
- New Accelerator Cable (old one was frayed) - New Driven Clutch - New Starter Clutch? (Sorry don't know the exact name for it) - New Drive and Starter Belts I have also done the standard oil, filter, spark plug and fuel line as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here are a few photos of what I am dealing with. If I need more photos of specific things please let me know. |

Check valve lash sould be set to .004" if that doesn't help compression check is in order

That was most likely caused by low compression because the valves were out of adjustment. |

Okay, well I am running into the same situation. Except we have a rebuilt motor with compression of 150 and the valves are set properly. It also has a new carb, clutches, and throttle cable (all OEM).
When you start taking off it takes a good 200-300ft. until it stops puttering around and finally takes off like it should. Starting to run out of ideas on it |

Sounds like a carb problem to me though. Check the condition of your plugs and see how it’s running, may show lean or rich |

Okay, will check them out. May try a new carb while we are in there too.
Also, it only happens when the engine is cold too. Now that the engine has been driven a few times today it starts fine every time. So will need to let sit for several hours to let it cool down. |

Spark plugs don't look too bad (not too black or not too clear).
What would you expect to see compression at from a rebuilt MCI Robbins engine? |

Re: 2000 EZGO: Slow Acceleration?
150 pounds of compression is not bad after a new rebuild. It should get better as the rings seat. The last one I built only had 150 at first. Its now got 165 on both cylinders and I haven't run it much since I put it back together. The others I own have 170 on both cylinders and they all were rebuilt a few years ago. You should be good.
