Power drive 2 charger question

A buddy just converted his 1990, 36 volt club car to 48v, by swapping the batteries to 6- 8volt batteries and a 48v solenoid. The charger he got is a 48v power drive 2 charger the plug on it has 3 pins. His old 36v charger a club car accu power had a 2 pin plug. The charge port on the cart is also 2 pin. Can I just use 2 of the wires on the power drive or what do we need to do to get it to output and charger his cart?

The wires going to the plug are black, red, and blue.

It looks like the blue wire must be a signal wire from the cart to tell the charger to kick on and off. Can I bypass this?

Your not clear on one thing. Did he also upgrade to a solid state controller or does he still have the toaster coils?

Looks like you need a obc for the charger to work and the correct receptical for it i have both used if y our interested pm me

Still has the toaster coils, I figured it out. The blue wire is a feedback signal from the cart obc which he does not have. The obc sends a signal to switch the 120v incoming power to the charger on and off. Bypassed this so whenever it's plugged in the charger kicks on. Hooked the 2 wires from his charger cable to the output terminals and all is good. Batteries were at 45v last night put them on charge for 9 hour overnight. They were sittin perfect at 51v this am.

I'm assuming you just unplugged it, as there is no timer in the charger

If you dont unplug it it will boil the batteries not a good setup you need some kind of timer on it.I would get a timer on the 110 plug bad thing is your guessing how much to charge it.

Yes, he unplugged it. There is no timer. He plans to add a mechanical timer to the 120v supply power. And put on charge accordingly. We figured 8-10 hr for a pack that is in the 44-45v range (10%). He has a meter to monitor the voltages on the pack until he gets a 48v state of charge meter. Had one on his 36v setup but obviously that's obsolete now with the 48v configuration.

Please note the Powerdrive2 box is a Power Supply, not a charger..

All of the voltage and current control is done by the OBC.

The timers were designed, and only work properly with, "Ferroresonant" chargers.

Although the old Ferroresonant Lestronic boxes look similar to a Powerdrive2 box, their transformers have an extra winding circuit with a capacitor that tapers the output current as the voltage on the battery pack rises.

Placing a timer on a "Power Supply" will not properly charge the batteries since there is no current control to deliver a slow "absorption" charge once the pack voltage reaches the threshold voltage for the end of the "Bulk" phase of the charging cycle.
