Default Pre 88 EZ Go cart?

I have a chance to get a pre 87 ez go gas cart for $350. I'm not sure of the year model but I know it's older than 1988. I'm pretty sure it's going to need a rebuild just by looking at it because the whole thing looks kinda rough like she been rode hard and put away wet. Should I get it? If so what are some of the things I should look out for? I've always wanted a 2 stroke cart (I'm a 2 stroke junky) but I don't want to buy something I can't fix or that will cost a fortune. I won't be looking to sell it so I don't mind spending some money in it to get what I want.

Is the frame all there and solid? Can you rebuild the engine? Is this cart exactly what you want?

I've only seen pictures so I'm going to look at the frame/body today or in the morning. I can do everything to a engine myself except machine work. The cart is a ole 2 stroke so that makes me want it. I have a soft heart for ratty old thing is my problem.

Well, if a soft heart for "ratty old things" is a problem I have the same affliction. You must decide if the cart is what you want and are willing to do to it.

As you describe, the motor will certainly need rebuilding. If you are OK with that, and spending $350 for the project, go for it.

I guess my question is if I need a part for it I'll most likely be able to find the part?

Sorry, but I don't think anybody can answer that. You don't yet know what year the cart/motor is.

I would stay away from anything that still has points. I think 1980 was the conversion year.

Also stay away from an internal starter.

I'd make sure it is exactly what you want. Any $350 cart doesnt stay a $350 cart for long. There are exceptions but I also have an affliction for cheap ratty things and have bought many cheap carts. Most $350 carts turn into a $1000+ cart very quickly...

Not trying to turn you off of it, just something to be aware of

Make sure the frame isn't rotten. Especially the brace going across the cart where the front if the engine attaches under the floor board. That seems to be the most common place

I'll definitely look at that brace. I'm pretty good at fixing things I just don't want to have to completely rebuild the whole thing because I forgot to look at something before hand. I'm the type once I buy it I have to fix it. That had gotten me into way more work than I wanted to do a few times.....
