Default Smokes bad after rebuild. Suspect oil in muffler??

94 yamaha. The "g" variations on these things is confusing lol

Anyways, the thing started smoking pretty bad a couple years ago. The owner drove it anyways, still ran great, just looked like he was fogging for mosquitos or something. It finally started fouling the plug real bad and quit running so he had me tear it down.

Have never seen an engine so caked in oil as this thing was. Replaced all gaskets, seals, valve seal, and piston rings. Runs good now, no smoke until the muffler heats up.. then blows smoke like before. The muffler was HEAVY, and I'm.sure it's full of oil.

I've seen the 2 stroke guys cooking the mufflers. Can this be done on the 4 strokes?? Flush it out somehow?

Real let down to get this thing back together and still a smoke show.

Run it long enough, and the oil will burn out. Never BBQd a G9 muffler.

I've never had one "full" of oil. But you could still bbq it. Build a nice big wood fire, wait until the fire burns down, build up some nice red coals, set the muffler down on the coals. If it starts smoking after 5 minutes, you'll know there's oil in there. Turn it over many times on all sides, try to get the oil to move around in there really good.

While it's off, start and run the cart a few minutes to see if it is smoking out the exhaust port. Don't rev it up, just let it idle.

I did try to keep it close to idle for a min or 2 with the muffler off and no sign of smoke. Probably should have gotten the bore cleaned up and done an oversize new piston.. but it looked real good in there.

Tried warming the muffler up with a propane torch while it was off and got some smoke and even some flames coming out the tail pipe for a bit.. ran out of propane. Put back together and still the same, will drive for a couple min like normal, then the smoke starts and gets progressively worse as you drive. Smoke keeps coming out the tail pipe for a bit after shut down also.

My G 14 after being a crop duster before a rebuild stopped smoking after maybe 10 minutes of driving. The exhaust heat of a 4 stroke will bake off the oil fairly quickly
