Default Newbie with a G9

First post here. I’m a newbie to the golf cart scene, but love all things with motors. I have a 1994 G9 that I’m starting on. Adjusted the governor to increase the speed. Worked like a charm. The problem is as the cart tries to start, it seems like it cranks for 10-15 seconds and finally fires. Choke position doesn’t seem to matter. Once it’s running, it works fine. I know there are plenty of experts out there that have seen this before. Looking for recommendations on where to start without having to crank the gov back out.

Thank for any help.

It started fine before the governor adjustment. I have checked the cable tot he carb and it seems to allow it to close completely.

does the carb start to move or open before, or even at the same time the starter/generator starts to turn the engine? You should be able to spin the engine with the starter before the carb starts to move. If the carb begins to open BEFORE the engine starts, it will be hard to start. Youre basically starting it at like half throttle (or more) and it doesn't have a chance to choke/prime.

Your cable may be a bit too tight after the adjustment, or sticking a bit
