Default 2005 G22 torque spring with original sheave

Hi everyone, a few questions about installing a new torque spring on my unmodified G22. I read a bunch of threads on a few sites and still have questions. Still trying to get my head around all the terminology.

I bought just the spring, no new sheaves; will I still see a gain in low end torque?

Should I clean the surfaces of the sheaves while I have them off? And if so, what do you recommend to clean them, Windex, something stronger, steel wool?

In the sticky for installing the torque kit it says to discard the plastic washer. Is that what I want to do even though I'm using the stock sheaves?

Thanks, my cart is about 300 miles away at our campsite so I'm trying to make sure I have everything for a Jake's 6" lift, new wheels/tires, and this torque spring upgrade this weekend! I'll try to take some before and after pics and maybe some pics of the install if possible.

I just did this on a G22, a few days ago. Go read the last few pages of the "Yamaha G8 Club"!

Page 457, I used a yamaha concierge spring tho!

I used a power washer, then parts solvent, (gas) after it was apart. I wanted it very clean before I reassembled. (I don't like getting dirty!! )

You will get added torque with just the spring. The stiffer spring will gear the cart lower for pulling power. We supply a splined collar with our spring that replaces the plastic washer. We also make a torque kit that comes with the heavier spring, splined collar and machined inner sheave. We do some machining to the inner sheave which allows the two clutch halves to come closer together to get the belt to ride even higher to give you even more torque. Hope this helps.

Hey Mike, thanks for the reply. I checked out the thread you mentioned, nice job and the pictures really helped me visualize the task I have ahead of me. Appreciate the info!

Thanks Jake's, it does help, still trying to understand how all this stuff works together and reading all I can. The spring I have came with the splined collar you mentioned. I'm going to our campsite this weekend to put the 6" lift (Jake's of course lol) and new tires and wheels on. I think I'll put the new spring on at the same time and see how it does. If it looks like I need more, I'll ping you guys for a new sheave and do that next trip.

Hoping the lift goes smooth and without issue. Been making a list of all of the tools and things I need to take with me since it's 300 miles from home and about 25 from a decent size town.
