Any issues with upgrading my F/R Switch before my motor, controller, solenoid?

I want to keep it in use while upgrading. And since my reverse is out I plan on starting there.
Dave, no problem at all, and the best thing you could do is to buy a HD F/R Switch from ScottyB at CartsUnlimited.net

FWIW,
I just bought the cam, then ended up having to buy the rest when mine melted. 1998 with 48 volts and up to 500 amps flowing through it.

OK, thanks everyone. Next question in my build.

I will buy the HD F/R switch shortly.

After that I am thinking High Amp Solenoid. Is this a logical next step?

I say that because correct me if I am wrong but I should do the Controller and motor at the same time. And last.

Any forseeable issues here?

Dave, for the money.....you can get one of the packages from ScottyB at CartsUnlimited.net and it will have BOTH the controller AND the SD Solenoid. and save some money in the process.

http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Custom_Options.html

then you can do the motor last. The stock motor will work fine till you get a new motor, no problem.

you can call ScottyB at his office and discuss your carts needs/wants (torque/speed requirements) and he will recommend to you the best controller package for your cart based on your needs.

That leads to my next question.

I have 6 6v batteries in my 36v series cart, the batteries have a year or two left in life. If I were to upgrade to 48v should I buy 6 8v, or 8 6v batteries for the upgrade?

I like not having to use the rear well for batteries.

If you don't want to use the bagwell you could use 6 8 volt batteries, just buy them when your current batteries all bite the dust. 8 6 volt batteries would be slightly more expensive also, since you're going to need all new batteries soon.

well ya got two options, and it all depends on how much work you want to do and which way to do it.

You can go with 6-8v's and its an easy job, you just swap them out, piece of cake. as long as your new delivery system (controller/sd solenoid/hd f&r/cables) is all in place that we have already talked about, and if you got it all from Scotty, the only thing you will need other than the new 8v batteries is to change out the Resistor on the top of the solenoid. and your done.

If you go with 8-6v's, the things above still need to be done, PLUS you need to decide where you are going to put the 2 extra batteries, either in the bagwell, OR do the modification to put all 8 under the seat. There are a few threads by a few people that have done that. the benefit is that you will have an even longer run time.

The choice is yours.

Update, decided to take it all down and do a complete rebuild. Frame is in great shape very little rush, and I am still looking for major issues. I think I got a good deal for $300.

Should I buy the upper and lower floor plans from used dealer or are they available new?
