36v to 48v - Is it worth it?
So I called and talked with a guy at D&D about a high torque motor for my cart build. Told him I was going to 48v and he asked why. Told me that I would not see any real gain as far as torque but maybe a little more run time. Is this true? I keep reading about everyone saying make the jump to 48v.

What type system do you have?
Controller/Motor Type: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/attac...go-guide-2.jpg http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/elect...en-system.html A series will definitely go faster. Sepex motors have a speed sensor, so until you upgrade the controller, the stock controller will limit RPMs. |

Just getting started on the build. Plan on running 500amp controller to Sepex motor.

Re: 36v to 48v - Is it worth it?
I'll let others answer as I'm a series guy, but I think you'll hear that it's worth it. As to run time, that may depend on how you achieve it. Eight 6 volt batteries is going to have a higher amp-hour (runtime) than six 8 volt batteries.
EDIT: In rereading this, it's possible to misinterpret the "runtime" as just meaning amp-hours = runtime. It was really intended to be for the whole sentence, if that makes sense. |

Only the PDS has a speed sensor. DCS like mine doesn't. I saw a VERY significant increase in both speed & torque when I went to 48v! ScottyB can give you good advice about what to expect with the different systems. Maybe he'll chime in shortly......

Re: 36v to 48v - Is it worth it?
hmmm I am watching this one... I have a high torque d&d motor on my cart with a 480 amp controller. I am 36n it until I need a new set of batteries at 36v I am getting 13mph on flat ground maybe 14 if I have a 1000ft running start. I am looking for more speed on the flat and more torque up the hill
