Default DS Inner Fender what does it connect to?

My DS gets a lot of grass on top of the batteries, does front of the inner fender actually attach to anything? Parts list does not show anything, grass seams to easily fly up from tires on top of batteries the slots on fender looks like they should do something.

Thanks
Bill

Mine has the same gaps, you could add some rubber flaps to each side if it bothers you that much.

Mine made a rattling noise that drove me nuts so I popped a couple of self tapping screws in them to keep them secure. I go through a lot of mud and they’ve held up just fine, and they don’t move....

The factory doesn't fasten them. I've often added 1/4" push-nuts for people who complained about dirt in their battery compartment.
