Question Anyone install (8) 6 volts batteries instead of (6) 8 volts?

Wondering who else has tried using eight 6v batteries instead of the standard six 8v on their 48v club cars? Came across a smoking deal locally on 6v and figured it would increase the carts range.

I'm not a golfer so I used the bag well to mount battery boxes for the (2) extra batteries. The black boxes are mostly hidden under the rear seat.

Anyone else ever do this? What difference did it make?

8/6s is how my industrial cart is set up. It holds a lot of run time which is good if we forget to charge when we should. The down side is the weight and typically the 2 rear batteries do not get the maintenance the other 6 get if they are covered by a seat or box. The longer run time is due to the 130-150 additional pounds of lead in 8/6v. But the weight is like carrying a small passenger around that never gets out...

I prefer the ease of 6/8v

They do run good with the extra reserve. They also go up in weight. with a Marathon , rear seat or box, and 8/6v the cart will be nearly 1000 pounds.

Scotty points out the good and the bad. I ran 8 6V T-105's for 6+ years on my cart before switching to lithium. Batteries weigh about 65-lbs each.....so another 130-lbs of weight.....and weight is good when you have big mudder tires and are in the mud....and the x-tra run time is nice. But if you don't use all your amp\hr with 6 8-V's you will never use it all with 8 6-V's.

Then again....if the price is right........

I run 8-6V in my 48V EZGO only because it started out as a 36V and I had 6 good batteries. I'll be going to 6-8V when they run out. Less weight and 6 batts are cheaper than 8

I had 8 - 6v the largest decca battery that would fit, 80# ea. If you need the run time or getting a great deal go with it. Now hav lithiums and love them took 500#s off the cart an it does way better in mud.
