testing liquid in battery
I have a hydrometer that says checks 6,12 24 volt, can I use this on a 48 volt system or will it only check the level on the above voltages?

Re: testing liquid in battery
The voltages on the hydrometer are for the voltages of the individual battery as a whole, not the system voltage.

Re: testing liquid in battery
I know I'm checking each cell for amount of acid, but are 8 volt batteries different in that the hydrometer reads different, the package only states for 6, 12 and 24 but does not mention an 8volt. thanks

Re: testing liquid in battery
It doesn't make any difference what the battery voltage is. A hydrometer measures the specific gravity of the acid in the battery.

So then it wouldn't really matter that the package doesn't list an 8volt, they are all the same as far as the reading the specific gravity of each cell. If that's true then I need to replace 6-8volts because none of them read for acid in the cells. Guess it's time to shell out some cash. thanks

Re: testing liquid in battery
If you are getting liquid sucked up in the hydrometer and the bulb isn't floating the battery is dead.
