G16 drivability issues
I recently picked up a G16 from my dad. I got it running good but there are some minor issues while driving it. The best way I can describe it is to compare it to second a car with a manual trans and trying start off in 2nd gear. Sometimes it's fine other times it feels like it needs to "downshift". It struggles on hills also. I am considering a clutch upgrade from Jakes oe Plowman but I haven't decided on which one yet. Anything I should look at to resolve this issue?

Check belt width first, should be wider than 1". Take cover off front clutch, check rollers for flat-spots. Check rear clutch spring seat, see if all 3 ramp shoes are worn down to the metal.

New sheaves and ramp shoes...
 You're new to Yamaha's. Plowmans makes real good stuff.  Do a search... New parts make a difference. Old sheaves...  |

When I first got my cart I was having similar issues. First I changed the belt with an aftermarket belt, big mistake; it slipped and left tracks of rubber on the driven clutch surface. I replaced it with an OEM belt much better. To get better takeoff and hill climbing I installed a torque spring in the driven clutch and it runs fine now. Good Luck.

If I rotate the inner sheave should it spring back when I let go? Mine does not until I roll the cart forward.
Between the Jakes power kit and the Plowman's kit, which one is recommended? |

Go with the Plowmans. If you're only 40 minutes from his shop, go and talk to him. He will wake up that g16.

I stopped in and talked to Don and was amazed on the knowledge! I pulled my clutch cover and found one extremely flat roller. Dropping my clutch off today for it to be rebuilt. I also plan to do some performance upgrades too. I wish I could swing the hot setup but just to close to Christmas.
