Default G1 kills spark plugs

I put a new carb on my G1 and now it runs better than it has since I owned it. It ran great for 15 or 20 minutes and then died. I checked for spark with a in line spark tester, all kinds of fire. Took plug out and held it against the motor, no spark. I replaced the spark plug and it started and ran great for about 10 minutes and died, same thing as before. Replaced spark plug again and runs great for a few minutes and spark plug is done for. Parts guy at Napa suggested trying a hotter plug, makes no difference. The spark plug wire cap doesn't fit tight on the end of the spark plug. When I got it, the end was taken off of the spark plug and the cap was loose on the threads of the spark plug end. I had to grind the end of the spark plug where the cap fits on down to get a snug fit on the wire. I am running mixed gas at 100/1. The electrodes of the bad plugs are clean. Why is it eating up spark plugs?? Do I need a new coil or just a replacement cap? I have tried cleaning the bad plugs and using them again, but they won't fire. Grandkids are coming for a few days in a couple of weeks, I really need to get this thing running right!!!! Thanks, Chris

Had NGK plug when I got it, can't find the paper I wrote the number on. Napa was out of NGK and he cross referenced to AC R44F and Autolite 425. Plug gap .0030. Plug cap is original, when you look inside, it appears to be solid brass with a hole with threads in it.

Go back to the NGK plug. Use a BP5HS. I hope you meant .030" and not .0030".

Thanks, I always get too many zeros in there. I'll try the NGK plugs. Chris

OK you may have a plug screw on end stuck up in the wire boot,
that can cause an arcing that is killing the plugs???
