Engine Swap in My 1988 EZGO
Well since the robin 244cc in the cart I bought last week needs a complete rebuild, I started my search for an engine. Found this one today. A JLO Rockwell 400cc. Has anyone every put one of these in a cart. Looks like I might be able to do it. Any pointers would be great as this is the first time I have ever played around with 2 stroke engines. Thanks.

It's an air cooled snowmobile engine with a fan

There's a few threads about this in the big block section, I would say lining up the clutches and making sure the engine rotation is correct are the most critical thing. I'm not sure how it's going to mount cause of how your rear end is, newer models have the drive belt running front to back.

I thought a 2 stroke can run in either direction. Am I wrong?

The way the pull start is set up it is the opposite rotation as what I need. This motor is out of a snowmobile. Not sure what though. and is from the earlu 80's or late 70's. Before cuyuna bought them out. I was going to rig up my starter/generator so I would hace forward and reverse.

Why don't you just purchase a rebuild kit for your Robins? In the long run, you'll save money, headaches and time. Someday you may want to sell your cart - You will have a MUCH better chance with a stock motor in it. We have some rebuild kits in stock...

Re: Engine Swap in My 1988 EZGO
My plan is to use this cart for getting out ice fishing with the sons. Since I can in no way afford a rhino is was going to lift this one and make it work for me. The engine wasn't running when I got it so I don't know if the 244cc will have enough power for me. What do you think? This is my first cart adventure and all HELP is great. Plus at this momment I cannot find anyone in my area that works on golf cart engines so I would not have any resources close by to get advice from. The crank is very banged up from a bearing on the rod letting loose and I can't afford the full rebuild kit right now.
