Default Yamaha G2A cuts out at half throttle

I have a Yamaha G2A which cuts out at half throttle and above. Once half throttle is reached the engine cuts out for a couple of seconds then restarts for a couple of seconds and carries on till the throttle is returned to less than half throttle where the engine runs perfectly. I have checked the wiring and have put a spark check device on the which shows the spark cuts off when the engine cuts out and returns seconds later so the problem is electrical. Is there something in there that would cause this?

yes, you are hitting the built-in rev limiter, stop doing that... if this is happening during driving, you have clutch and/or belt problems.

Thank you for your reply. This happens both when driven and with the the buggy in neutral. Is there something that can be done with the limiter as the engine is running well below full revs.

Might want to take the primary clutch cap off and check for a broken weight.

I will do that but I am still mystified. Does the built in rev limiter disconnect the supply to the ignition system. I can't see any mention of it on the wiring diagram?

The rev limiter is built into the ignition module, there is no disconnecting it. One of the problems I had with my G2 was after I started running it in the fields the past wiring repairs started to break down. Wire connectors had corroded and started breaking. I had intermittent electrical issues that would shut the engine down. I eliminated all the factory wiring when I did my VC460 upgrade.

yes there is something that can be done. get the clutches working correctly, then the cart wont be hitting rev limiter while driving, unless you really are doing over 30 mph all the time (if so, do your motor a favor, slow down). as far as neutral, yamaha had no intention of you revving it in neutral. since the mechanical governor is not slowing it, and the electronic one is having to do it, i really think you have belt/clutch problems.

Had the same symptoms on a g2 watch it on neutral if the clutch is operating correctly belt should come to the top of the primary sheaves and bottom of secondary sheaves at wide open if the belt doesn't come to the top of primary it will most likely be a broken weight

Took off the clutch cover and out flopped the broken weight. I have checked the rest of the clutch and all seems ok so I have ordered a new weight which will arrive next week. Thank you all for your help.
