Default Best grease for Yamaha G16 primary clutch

What is the best grease to use on the primary and secondary clutchs grease fittings on a Yamaha G16? I have a 3oz grease gun and I just want to make sure I get the right grease. Also do I do as the manual says and put 3 pumps ? Or take the cover off do it another way? Your guys info has been great !

Thanks,
Jeff

Any good quality regular bearing grease should be fine. Start with 1 or 2 pumps. Too much is not a good thing...

You don't want to have grease slinging around.

Always take the cover off and remove the excess grease that is present. Many clutches have been ruined by not removing this grease. We call this a mechanic induced failure, which in this industry is common.

With the belt off, the primary should slide in and out easily by hand...

Thinking back on that, I think I replaced the bushings and seals in the primary in 2013

I bought and installed a new primary sheave in 09, but the weighs and pins were the ones that came with the car!!

And sorry Camp, I'll try to clean up my act!!

Just my thoughts on sheaves and clutches; There seems to be a lot of chatter on this subject lately. The attraction to using a Chinese knock off for a cheaper price may not be the best way to go!! Most of us are modifying these cars to go at more than twice the speed, which is turning these sheaves at twice the RPM, or more!! There are at least 3 threads on this site where sheaves have exploaded (primary and secondary), and I wouldn't want to be sitting on the seat of the car that, that happened to!! Sharp pieces could come flying through the seat or body at any point, (and/or lock up the rear axle) sending any unsuspecting passengers flying forward!! The driver has the steering wheel to hold on to, but is probably in the most danger of shrapnel from flying parts!!

All of our cars are getting up in age, and sheaves are wearing and getting thinner and thinner, so paying attention to observation and maint of these parts is more critical!!

I also wouldn't trust anything but "Genuine Yamaha, or Plowmans parts here!!"

OK Camp!! You and Max, scared me into thinking about checking my primary since its 7+ yrs old!!......
