There are at least 3 threads on this site where sheaves have exploaded (primary and secondary), and I wouldn't want to be sitting on the seat of the car that, that happened to!! Sharp pieces could come flying through the seat or body at any point, (and/or lock up the rear axle) sending any unsuspecting passengers flying forward!! The driver has the steering wheel to hold on to, but is probably in the most danger of shrapnel from flying parts!!

All of our cars are getting up in age, and sheaves are wearing and getting thinner and thinner, so paying attention to observation and maint of these parts is more critical!!

I also wouldn't trust anything but "Genuine Yamaha, or Plowmans parts here!!"

OK Camp!! You and Max, scared me into thinking about checking my primary since its 7+ yrs old!!......
Yep, gotta agree on using OEM clutch parts. Bite the bullet once and be done with it. Less worries down the line. New parts will last a long, long time.

Mike Mac, I bought my cart from a nice older lady that only drove it to church on sundays I am sure there was NO MAINTANCE done to it since it never left the campgrounds.
This is just a thought..Mike you mentioned only using OEM parts, but with turning these carts up and doubling the RPM's you wouldn't consider after market part/ high performance clutches? (Gboost)
Being in the racing over the years.. we ran our motors in the sprint cars at 8500/9000 rpm there is no way OEM parts from Chevrolet would hold up to the abuse. Which makes me believe there are manufactures out there who probably build a stronger clutch than OEM..any thoughts??

The G16 Vanguard has a CV Tech 06 primary, OEM secondary and stock spring.

Karen's 22 has rebuilt OEM primary and a Plowmans secondary.

I'm pretty sure that an OEM primary will withstand any mods you do to the stock engine. I think that Plowmans used the stock Yamaha primary on their Honda kits...

just trying to figure out what's the best way for me to go now that.. I have broken weights in my primary. Do I rebuild the stock one..or replace the whole primary with the Gboost primary? With the primary sheave having some wear/uneven surface, it would be very costly replacing with all OEM
