Club Car DS Gas Tanks?
I was working on my 1990 DS cart last night and discovered that the back end of my plastic gas tank (where it was exposed to the most sun as it sat outside with no body on it for two years...) is brittle and cracked through. I'm currently trying to find out what my options are to either repair it or get a new tank.
I see that there are brand new gas tanks available online for 1992-up DS carts. Is there any reason why that gas tank wouldn't work on my 1990 cart? Aren't the frame rails the same? I cut out most of the brittle area. 90% of this gas tank still seems very solid. Maybe I can do a plastic-weld repair? |

Thinking out loud (I'd guess others are too)...
Why would you risk life and property over a relatively cheap replacement? Replace the tank. This is my formula: Anything that is less than 10% of the value of the cart (boat, car, etc.) I replace with new. Over that percentage, I consider rebuilt or replace with used. In the end, I want dependability. Do it right, or do it twice. |

Re: Club Car DS Gas Tanks?
I would have decided to replace it without question, if the new replacement tank was readily available. All I can find new is the 1992+ tank. Does anyone know if it will work or what I would have to do to get it to work?
I have found a correct, local used tank which I will be purchasing, but I'm still curious if the 1992+ tank would have worked. |

Okay, So... what year cart did your "new" tank come from?
Pre-92? |

Nevermind...
I see that it doesn't have a vent line, so it is a pre-92! |

Re: Club Car DS Gas Tanks?
So I've been doing a little research this morning and I made this infographic based on the detailed info on golfcartpartsdirect.com (I put all the gas tank drawings in one single image so they could be compared easily). Judging from this, it appears that Club Car used the new (1992+ style) gas tank during the last run of KF82 golf carts in 1991. So I would have to guess that a 1992+ tank should fit just fine in a 1984-1991 cart.
Also, there was a gap in the golfcartpartsdirect.com coverage of fuel systems. I couldn't find any confirmation of what gas tank was in the 1988 carts. There are a few 1988 carts in our campground, I'll have to do some digging to see what kind of tanks they have. Or maybe some of you guys on here with 1988 gas DS carts (or carts with serial numbers that fall between the red and the blue diagrams, 1987-1989) could chime in and tell us which of these tanks are in your cart (if any)? |
