Re: Pull drive clutch w/o tool?
See what I commented in the thread below and made my own. Used it again 2 days ago. I can have drive clutch off in about 5 minutes after I pull it into my shop with this self made removal tool.

Re: Pull drive clutch w/o tool?
I caved and bought another tool.
I gave the grease/hydraulic method a half-a$$ed try, but when I found a local shop that carried the tool, it just seemed easier to go that way. I feel like I've failed the BGW crowd, but the **** clutch is off! |

Re: Pull drive clutch w/o tool?
If you're willing to buy the clutch buy the tool to remove it prying it off is bad I don't see where you could get a good position to pry other than the side of the motor and you will crack the case before the clutch comes off

Prying it off is a bad idea. You're just asking for trouble by doing that. |

I’ve tried using an air gun, no luck, packed it with grease, no luck. Tapped the bolt with a hammer, no luck. I certainly don’t want to damage the crank case but this thing is not coming off. Can I cut it off safely? |

Re: Pull drive clutch w/o tool?
IF you're at a stage where you are unable to use the drive clutch removal tool (which I've not ever run into...are you sure?), your best bet would be to somehow make some relief cuts in the hub using a Dremel and then prying the cuts open in order to loosen the fitted grip of the clutch to the end of the crankshaft. I'd make the relief cuts parallel to the crankshaft.
I had a similar experience with my driven clutch (rear clutch). Ended up making a relief cut and then whacking it with a hammer/chisel to break it loose. Post #7 in the thread below shows the relief cut I made in order to get the thing off: http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/gas-c...nightmare.html |

Re: Pull drive clutch w/o tool?
Out of curiosity, have you used an air impact gun to run the clutch tool in? Sometimes doing it by hand isn't enough. Sometimes it just take a few quick raps from the impact gun and the clutch pops right off. I'd try that first if you haven't yet. Be sure to just hit it with the gun in quick, short bursts. If you just lay on the gun your tool will break once it reaches the bottom (I learned this from experience).

Re: Pull drive clutch w/o tool?
Still no luck. I am cutting away piece by piece to get this entire drive clutch off. The starter/generator pulley wouldn’t come off and I destroyed a pulley puller getting that off. I had to cut that pulley right down to the shaft to finally get it off. I am having to do the same thing to the drive clutch. I’m wondering if this thing was submerged in water at some point. Because holy crap, this thing is a nightmare.
