Default one or two fuel filters

According to all the diagrams I can find relating to the fuel system on a 1986 club car there are 2 inline fuel filters. Both my 1986 club cars only have 1. I never noticed this until recently. I am replacing the fuel pump and carburetor on one of my club cars as well as all the hoses. Is it necessary to install a second inline filter? What purpose will it actually serve? I also came across some 5/16 fuel line I happened to have . Will it be ok to replace the old 1/4 hoses with the 5/16? I can't imagine using a slightly larger ID hose would affect the cart's performance ??? or would it???? I appreciate any opinions. I am new to working on these golf carts. I ask a lot of questions its the only way I learn.

There should be a filter between the tank pickup and the pump (keeps debris out of the pump), and a second filter between the pump and carb. The second filter may not be necessary, but the ports in the carb are small and better filtration does help keep the carb clean. Even with 2 filters I still find some junk in the carb bowl on my carts after a couple years.

5/16 fuel line may be ok as long as you can get it to clamp down and seal properly. Going to a larger diameter fuel line creates air space in the line which can cause airlock or cause the pump to lose prime and not pull fuel up from the tank properly. You'll find out pretty quick if it doesn't work.

Thank you!! I'll go ahead and install a second filter, they're certainly cheap enough so better safe than sorry. I went ahead and replaced the fuel lines with 1/4 as well.

Make sure you use a factory fuel pump and carburetor. Not sure why your changing them in the first place cuz it is rare they ever go bad, but since you are buy OEM. If you are going to buy aftermarket, make sure you keep you old stuff so you can put it back on when the aftermarket stuff fails.
