Charging System Help
I have an old Taylor Dunn with a Yamaha engine, equivelent to a G1. I have read through the forums and seen the many diagnoses of a Voltage Regulator when the generator does not charge, but changing the VR has not fixed my problem. Here are the details:
1. With a voltmeter I see only 12.7ish voltage at full throttle. 2. Tried grounding the field input on the generator, doesn't change anything. 3. Have put 3 different generators on the unit (all new), still no change. 4. Have adapted a 3 wire VR that is manually set, still no change. 5. Have verified the engine is turning 2500 RPM's with a photoelectric tach, nothing. 6. If I reach down and grab the butterfly on the carb by hand and over-rev the engine with ANY of the above changes, it charges correctly. I posted this here in the Yamaha section because even in the T/D service manual there are diagrams taken straight out of the Yamaha G1 service manual. I have 4 different carts, all T/D's, that are presenting the same/similar problem(s) and I am going crazy trying to figure this out! I should note that the generators we have are not Hitachi's but some generic knock off's that I have no control over. Any ideas? |

Re: Charging System Help
Belts are both in above average shape, not new....
Also, a G-9 schematic has the same VR that is on this unit. |

Re: Charging System Help
Are the belts tight? It is odd that it is rpm related electronics are on or off in my exp.

Re: Charging System Help
Thanks for that....
None of them can keep the battery charged. I send them out, and within a week I have them back for a dead battery, because they aren't charging. They all have different readings, but none of them above 13 volts. |
