Default 82' G1 17.5 MPH top speed

I picked up a G1 a few weeks ago, did a few things to it. Removed the oil pump and went to a pre-mix, cleaned the carb and adj it, bypassed the governor. I think i will still BBQ the pipe and maybe some other small things but nothing major. I didnt mess with the clutch or anything else yet.

I GPS it yesterday and i am getting 17.5 MPH on level street. You all think this is about right? or can I squeeze more out of it.

Thats slow for a G1! Maybe for stock right off the showroom floor but nowhere near its potential with some slight mods! My G2 does 20.

It basically is a stock G1 with the gov bypassed. Maybe it needs a new belt, plus i am sure the pipe could use a BBQ.

Anyone see a problem using this oil.

Yes, it is an outboard motor oil. Boat engines are water-cooled and and do not run as hot as an air-cooled engine. The lubrication requirements are different. This article explains the difference:

http://www.ultralighthomepage.com/OIL/oil.html

Although written for ultralight aircraft, and has a slant towards Pennzoil products, the info is valid for our purposes. Use a high-quality 2-cycle AIR-COOLED engine oil.

ok so i ran threw one tank of the Pensoil marine 2 stroke oil. The cart ran ok, it didnt blow up but it did smoke a little.

Mixed up a new tank of Bel-Ray S2, its just there cheap 2 stroke oil, real oil not synthetic. Mixed it at 65:1 and it works real good. very little smoke just at low speeds when you would expect it to load up, hardly any smell and the cart seems to run crisper.

With no governor you can go much faster, like approaching or around 30mph if you work on it some. It will wind way up to high rpms, this is with stock 18 tires and no lift. One I worked on a lot had decked head, cleaned up port, advanced timing, airbox modded, carb jetted, clutch worked on, few other things and certainly went over 30 according to a motorcycle and cars I ran it against on the road. Of course it was not that old of a cart at the time either. It would powerslide on bare grass or gravel drives, too much fun that thing was. Could powerslide it at like 25mph on wet grass that was a challenge. It does take a little to get going at max speed it was pretty fast up to 20+mph then gradually more. It had no governor at all on it someone broke the shaft clamping the spring.

Always wanted another one like that but never got to it, yet. Otherwise put a bravo sled motor in it.
