Re: had to run home in reverse???
Basically a timing issue. Is this a 4 stroke? If so, check your timing belt.

Re: had to run home in reverse???
I would do a compression check just to rule that out and then go from there....

Re: had to run home in reverse???
Well the big difference is, as you point out, is the rotation of the engine. It is entirely possible that your crankshaft seals are on their way out and are starting to leak. What may be happening is that in reverse the seals snug up a little tighter, seal up and she runs.
Here is what I suggest. The fuel pump needs the oscillations of crankcase pressure to operate so if you disconnect the line to the carburetor, point it into a container, crank up in forward and measure the amount of fuel pumped up in say 5 seconds. Now repeat the operation but this time in reverse. If the amount of fuel delivered in reverse is far greater then you are looking at the seal replacement. Note that it would be kinder on your battery and safer for you if you removed the spark plug. Of course it could be something else but this little test should point you down the road. Dave |

Re: had to run home in reverse???
ok the compression is 125 so i guess that rules out rings
measure the amount of fuel and it was about the same so the seal should be ok right i took the spark plug out when i did the compression test and hooked it to the plug wire and laid it on the muffler and it had spark |
