Default Re: Rear End Clunk When Starting Off

Ok, I got everything back together. When reassembling the cam I made sure to twist the cam as I compressed the spring where the cam lobs would fall into the next valley over from where it would fall without the twist. I also set the spring at the 3rd hole for more torque. I took it out and tested it and all is well. No more clunking at start up!

The weird thing is that it seems my top end speed has decreased. Is this because I set the spring on the third hole? I jacked up the rear and looked at it while it was running and everything seemed to function as adverstised so I'm scratching my head here. I think the stock setting for the spring is at #2 position, more torque for #3 and less for #1. If that's backwards let me know and I'll switch it around.

Thats why I always put the spring in the #2 spot, kinda a happy medium. The book calls for 140 degree rotation counterclockwise. I know I said 180 before but we need the torque on the golf course(because if hills and stuff) not speed. All mine do about 12 miles an hr to the wood. So maybe loosen up the tension 1 lobe. Glad that took care of your clunking prob.

Yeah, I may pull it off and put it back to the #2 position. Thanks for all your help :>)
