Default 1988 Marathon just stopped needs solenoid crossed

Had my GAS 88 Marathon at an event a couple weeks back. As I was driving it just killed. I noticed if I crossed the solenoid it would work. I was way out of town and the closest thing to a solenoid was a old Ford style one so I replaced it with that. Nothing happened. So what I ended up doing to get me through the weekend is take the wire from the ignition and jump that to the solenoid. So how it worked is if you turned the key on boom your running and had to shut off key when came to a stop. Last day of trip something must have seized as it would not shut off unless I removed the jumper wire. Either way I would like to fix this problem and would love some hep to steer me in the right direction. Could it be the solenoid? The micro switch on the gas pedal? All forward and reverse work fine. Any tips would be great. Thanks

Sounds like one of your micro's. Your last issue of it not turning off could be a frozen solenoid, but go ahead and check the micro's first, and if all is good there, I'd say solenoid time.

I'd like to add that you need a continuous duty solenoid.
