Fuel flooding issue
I've got a 79 marathon and ive been having flooding problems. New filters, carb kit, adjusted float, cleaned carb twice and still flooding but i think i found the culprit but i need to know why its still flooding. Im pulling the motor for a top end kit and i pulled the fuel line off the pump going to the tank. Heres the problem: the line going into the tank is still filling up with fuel even though its not running and not hooked to the pump. Does anyboby know what is causing that and how to fix it? Thanks.

Re: Fuel flooding issue
The tank in yours is behind the seat, its' gravity-feed.If the carb has been gone thru, did you set the float properly? It needs to be parallel with the bowl-gasket surface. Also, possibly the needle and seat are bad, causing the fuel to continue flowing into the carb, even when the float is trying to close the needle.Hope this helps.

I set the float parallel when i put the kit in it. Yes my tank is behind the seat. Gravity fed huh? The hose going to the tank hooks up to the pickup tube on top the tank not on the bottom so im confused about the gravity thing.

Re: Fuel flooding issue
It is pulled from the top,but it will siphon from the tank, since the carb is lower. If the needle/seat is open,it will flow.

Re: Fuel flooding issue
Ever drain a swimming-pool?You throw a hose over the side and lay it on the ground, get the siphon flowing, and it will drain the pool! The vacuum of the siphon will lift the fluid up!The float may be bad,try tossing it in a bowl of water and see if it floats. Also, shake it and see if you hear sloshing.Glad to help.

Re: Fuel flooding issue
Also it only takes a small piece of junk to prevent the needle from sealing.
