A little tire/wheel size help please
I posted this down in the lifted carts section last night but didn't get much response. Maybe it'll be seen more up here.
So I got my 5" lift installed under my 93 GXI804 yesterday. It looks great and works great. Now I'm looking at tire/wheel options. I put some 20-8-8's on the stock rims and they work well but I'd like to go to 22-11-8. Am I going to need a wider rim? I don't want the tread to be "rounded" I like the look of flat tread across the face of the tire I'm afraid the 7" wide stock rims will make the tread too "rounded". I know I'll have to add wheel spacers for anything wider than the 8" wide tires since they are VERY close to rubbing the steering arm on the right spindle. But do I need the spacers AND more offset in the rims to use the 11" wide tires? Thanks, Mark |

Re: A little tire/wheel size help please
for 22x11-8's you will need either a minimum 1" wheel spacer per rim or rims with a 3:4 offset - personally, I have used and like the 2" spacers, just to give a little extra clearance, also you can use them with your stock rims.
As to the tire profile, a lot depends on the tires themselves. I have a set of Deestone 900 series 22x11-8's on a cart and they definitely have a rounded profile on the stock rims, however on my other cart I have Chen Shin Lumberjack 4-ply's (also 22x11-8's) and they are very "squared off" (especially when I run them at the rated 8psi - although to be honest I generally run them at 12psi unless I know I'm going to be pounding them offroad pretty good - the higher psi gives less rolling resistance and although the ride is a bit stiffer, for around the property it just works better for me overall) The narrower rim really doesn't affect the profile of the tire THAT much - at least not on a golf cart where the difference with a wider rim is only going to be an inch or so |
