Default 1992 Gas Club Car keeps running after you take your foot off pedal

My 1992 Club Cart will continue to run for 10-15 seconds after you take your foot off the pedal. I did find a post about this and tried the fix suggested with the micro switch not adjusted properly, even went to the point of replacing it and it seems to be working just fine. I did try to close the manually but that did not shut the engine down. This did not solve the problem. The engine does have a strong odor of gas like it is running way rich. I did try a new spark plug. I did replace the coil recently because I was not getting any spark at all. Golf cart engines are new to me.

(Before I get banned again) You may have a build up of carbon on the valves. When the carbon gets hot it promotes an on "an on run situation" and acts like a spark plug due to it's high temperature even when the engine is shut off. Try a dose of Seafoam in the gas tank to clear the upper cylinder of excessive carbon.
