Sound Deadener or Dynamat?

FWIW guys, having done a lot of sound deadening work...

Save your $$. Dynamat works by dampening the vibration in large relatively flat pieces of sheet metal. It does this by simply adding mass to the surface so it can not vibrate or resonate as easily. It actually has very little sound absorption qualities. Some, but not much. The body on a golf cart doesn't resonate the same way a flat piece or sheet metal does, in fact probably very little. Most plastics just don't behave that way.

What you need in this application is a sound absorbing mat. Like the stuff you see in a stock cart. Notice that it is a thick foam like substance. You can buy this stuff on the web where sound deadening products for car audio are sold. It is made to 'catch' the audible noise.

As far as using the Home Depot stuff, yep, in the proper application it will do the same thing as the fancy stuff. It just adds mass. Only disadvantage is that sometimes the adeasive doesn't hold up to well and when used in an interior application it can off gas with a tar smell.

In an auto application, Dynamat and others do wonders. Did my VW Syncro throughout and t is WAY quieter on the road! (LOTS of BIG flat metal areas!!)

You know I drove the cart around the campground yesterday for a few hours and it actually did seem quieter than before, maybe it really did quiet down a bit after all. Maybe running the cart in maintenance mode in the garage surrounded by three walls really isn't a good way to judge sound changes...
