Default 95 CC DS, revs up, cuts out, revs up, cuts out

Hey, Im new to the site. I just bought a 95 CC. It runs great up to a certain rpm/speed, then cuts out, revs up,cuts out, revs up. When I back off the pedal a little to the spot where it runs steady, it will back fire and then runs fine there until you try to accelerate, then the same thing. I have tried loosening the clamp on the gov and disconnecting the ground strap on the front of the motor, but still the same. I'm ok with the speed it will hold at the sweet spot where it doesn't cut out, but I'd like for it to run steady with the pedal on the floor. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Similar problem was discussed here. We're still waiting to hear back from the original poster:

Thanks, but it doesn't actually die. It just wont run steady once it gets past a certain rpm, like it's being limited or governed, but the gov should be disabled.

It's called "surging" Fred and it's a common problem with a CC that's out of synch.
What you are experiencing is the cart hitting the rev limiter which cuts out the spark momentarily. Are you sure that you have the limiter ground wire correctly removed and the governor disabled properly ?

Thanks Chris, No I'm not sure. I loosened the clamp on the gov so it can move freely and I disconnected a ground wire from the front of the motor to the frame.

That's exactly what it feels like, like it's loosing spark

The rev limiter is mounted low on the front of the motor below the valve cover. The ground wire you remove and insulate with tape is under a #10 bolt located on the top left hand side looking at the rev limiter. Replace the ground wire you removed from motor to frame. If this works get a tack.

Thanks Jimmie, I'll remove it tonight and I will get a tach asap. I'll post back and let you know how it goes.

Well, No luck. I removed the ground wire and now it wont rev at all. I put it back and it still wont rev. It wont get past an idle. The cart has obviously been monkeyed with before. The rev limiter box shown in pic has a tie strap around it as if to hold it together. Frustrated...
