Locking Diff Problemo
I'm having trouble with the locking mechanism on my Carryall 272. The cables free but the arm it's attached to only moves a little bit. I'm a recent owner and the previous owner must've never used it. It is very rusty and frozen but some penetrating oil, tapping and prying freed it up some. What's my next move?

Re: Locking Diff Problemo
I have a stuck differential lock too. My next step is take the axle loose and look inside. I am in no big rush because my FE350 can't break one tire loose. I see your problem is going to be all the rust you have. Your going to break some things if you go tearing into yours.

Re: Locking Diff Problemo
If your talking about the arm with the spring on it? that looks like the governor, not the shifter

Re: Locking Diff Problemo
This is the first time I've seen a locking differential, and that thing is rusted to he...ck!
Rib... yeah, it is the locking differential! Common sense tells me that they put that spring there so it'll pop out of posi to prevent damage to the transaxle! Just another weird CC design... go figure! |

Re: Locking Diff Problemo
Did that thing spend its entire life in a salt mine or on the coast somewhere? That's the level of corrosion you often see on old equipment at navy bases.

Re: Locking Diff Problemo
I have an exploded view of mine but mine a little different. If it is the same as mine it just has a splined collar that locks the outer axle to a shorter shaft that goes to the diff. The lever slides the collar back and fourth. There isn't too much to them.
