Default 1989 carb issues

1989 2-cycle engine with less than two hours on SECOND rebuild (after first new oil pump failed).. ran great with all new ignition parts, then just stopped. Cannot stop it from flooding the "new" carb I put on it (which is smaller than the original. Would like to rebuild that original Mikuni carb. It's a BV-18 apparently, for the "2pg" engine. Any advice on where to find a kit for that?

Have compression, spark and plenty of gas flow, but will not start. Any advice on troubleshooting? Could the new fuel pump be overpowering the carb and making the overflow spit lots of gas? Will too much oil in the gas keep it from firing, if I have it too oily (from fear of burning up the new piston and rings...) ?

Right after writing that "8 oz/tank" reply, I did a compression check -- quick 100lbs and holds it steady. Then tried the plug and found that I have no fire on the plug now, so this is a different issue. Last time I tried it, there was a good spark, so maybe therein lies the solution.
