Default G22A 2002 Yamaha not running smoothly

I have a 2002 yamaha G22A gas golf cart that takes about 5-8 seconds of coughing and sputtering to get moving to full speed....runs fine once you get going....the plug is black but otherwise looks good....you can smell fuel like its to rich or like the choke is engaged....i took off the fuel line to the carb from the fuel pump and blew it out which didnt help....i wanted to take the intake filter housing off but havent figured out how to yet...it has to be externally fixed because there are no screws/bolts inside the housing holding it on....any help would really be appreciated....thanks much....

Your engine compartment should look like this. Just undo the clips around the top of the air filter box.

2 10mm head bolts at the back of the air cleaner box assy, 2 12mm headed nuts on the carb studs. Then take off the hose at the valve cover and slide the air box assy off the carb studs.

The fuel pump only "spurt" out fuel, very low pressure. The real problem is the main jet sit's in the float bowel, so it get's clogged up. I use a welding torch tip cleaner to open it up.

It's a flat piece of foam held together by wire mesh...about an inch thick and the same shape as the lid of the air intake box.

'Hope this helps.
