Default Shift cable HELP!!!!!

Does anybody know the right way to adjust the shift cable? I had to replace a broken one and I am wondering if I am off a couple splines on the tranny or just not adjusting the cable right. Any tips? Either I get forward or reverse but never both

Did you take the lever off the f/r splined shaft? If so, there is a dot on the shaft and the lever that need to line up.

Check the angle of the "arm" on the trans. It should swing to the same angle in forward And reverse. What i mean by this is, the bracket on the trans should be straight up in neutral, and swing an equal amount into forward and reverse.
