loose steering is bigger problem
Called Plowmans for fine tuning class today and they are closed(winter hours).
So...... saw where I should pack steering box with grease to tighten it up and found this. This thing was (is) wrecked. Steering is loose , 3" of play or so, but other than that not bad. Lift kit plate bent also so wreck was after lift was put on.Steering box arm was welded crooked so trying to straighten out armature plate is probably a waste of time. We are gonna grease box now. Now I got an excuse to get a 7" lift kit. |

Re: loose steering is bigger problem
Steering box was 90% empty, filled and still have play, go figure. Does any one have a picture off what my frame should look like? Steering has a small kink in it when turning right, when standing still. Too cold for a test run. Never even knew there was crash damage until we took off front cowl to grease box so I don't think I need to torch and weld since I would have to hire out right now.

Re: loose steering is bigger problem
If you are hitting "kinks" you have the screw adjusted too tight. The shifting noted in your a-arm mounts is the same problem i had with my "economy lift", had to straighten & re torque the bolts regularly. Otherwise, it looks normal.

Re: loose steering is bigger problem
Wow! What a mess on the wreck repair. The a arms are not even positioned correctly with each other. There should be about an inch play in the steering. You sure it is the steering and not the suspension/front end somewhere? Check the front wheels with the steering wheel straight and see if the tires lines up straight. If one is crooked a little it will throw the steering all out of wack while driving. Check the toe in and out. You can also jack up the front end and move the tires/wheels back and forth to see if they seem to conform with the steering wheel.
