Yamaha gas G16 no-go?
I have a 96 or 97 G16. Recently with the key on I press the accellerator and there is noting like my battery is dead. If it step on it a few more times after completely releasing it will begin working. It does it intermittently.
Also not sure if related but occasionally it will have a "shudder" for a second or 5 before it smooth out and drives well. Help! |

Re: Yamaha gas G16 no-go?
Could be battery post connections, pedal switch, the start solenoid, loose or slipping start belt, even starter brushes. When my start solenoid went bad I could stomp on the floor and it would start. It is located right behind the floor on my cart. Also check wiring and connectors for it.

Re: Yamaha gas G16 no-go?
I would start at the micro switch ( peddle switch )
then starter solenoid. Sure its one of the two. since its intermittent it can be hard to diagnose. The micro switch is very cheep and the solenoids aren't to bad. Both for about $30-$40 If money is not a big deal and your time is, just replace both! |

Re: Yamaha gas G16 no-go?
Can you hear the click of the starter solenoid when you press the gas pedal when it doesn't start up? My G8 was acting very similar to yours. I checked the solenoid when it was in the nonstarting condition and wasn't getting voltage through it. Just tapping the solenoid with a screwdriver and it fired right up, ordered a new solenoid, no issues since. The non start issue was definitely more prevalent after I had been driving the cart for a while and everything was hot.

Re: Yamaha gas G16 no-go?
In addition to the above, don't overlook a weak battery for this symptom. Also a battery not fully charged can cause this problem. I do a lot of short runs to the lake and back with my cart, so my battery eventually becomes run down and I know I need to recharge when this symptom starts to occur on my cart. An overnite charge usually clears things up for quite a while for me. Good luck - RAY

My G9 start solenoid was a lot more than that. You must use a constant duty one or it wont work.

Re: Yamaha gas G16 no-go?
add in there a possible starter/starter belt not being tight enough issue
good point about not underestimating a weak battery, it tricks a lot of people |
