Crazy question but were the rings intact with that piston when you removed it? Perhaps I am in the minority but that one you are holding, though far from ideal, doesn't look completely awful (at least as bad as some I have seen). It could maybe be serviceable with some fresh rings, at least until you get a better solution. Maybe not as well, I am just throwing it out there.

You know the piston actually looks fine. I cleaned it up and it has no markings or anything on it. It’s real smooth. I was thinking maybe the rings too.

I agree. Try comp check with new rings, reeds, gaskets, piston pin retainers. If it reads good leave it together lol. The parts are cheap until you get into pistons and cylinders but you can't buy them for '82 anyway

You may be able to throw rings at it. You could get rings and put them in the cylinder and check the end gaps. Myself id have it inspected by a machine shop which I know can be hard to find a good one. Even if the walls arent scored it may have a taper to it.

You could always get a set of rings and check the gaps in a few different spots in the cylinder and if that checks out give it a light hone and have at it.

Yeah I’m gong to try and ring it, and hope for the best. I’m hoping the new crank seals and gaskets will let it all work.

Well, now I'm not sure either. Yamaha official info conflicts with both of our views.

You can buy an aftermarket .75mm OS piston and ring kit.

I just saw a 1.0 over factory Yamaha piston on flea bay too. Might not be listed correctly though happens a lot there.

Well I found rings from Yamaha that are .75mm so I’m going to see if that works. I’m confident it will. Thanks again guys
